AIF Suspends Albany Rivergators

HICKORY, NC – American Indoor Football has officially removed the Albany Rivergators franchise from the AIF schedule for the 2024. This decision does not come lightly and follows extensive conversations with ownership and an evaluation of the Albany Rivergators' current status. Rivergators' ownership has been working diligently with the arena to procure an executable arena lease, however, they unfortunately have not received a resonable contract offer. With this information and the season less than a month away, the league has decided effective February 21th, to remove the Albany Rivergators from the American Indoor Football League for the 2024 Season. The status of the Rivergators' and their standing with the league will undergo a re-evaluation at the end of the season. At that time, the team will have the opportunity to apply for reinstatement for the 2025 season.

The AIF, now under new leadership, is focused on increasing stability, not only for the 2024 season, but moving forward. This move will move will allow the remaining teams to proceed to the 2024 season. The league has been in contact with member teams with regards to adapting to the absence of Albany for the 2024 Season. The AIF season kicks off on March 17th when the Amarillo Venom return to the field hosting the Columbus Lions.
